Woman Be

Post Natal Massage

After having your baby resting is vital for optimum hormone balance and to make it easier for your body to re-adjust post birth. The reality is often the opposite and the tendency can be to neglect yourself in favour of looking after baby. In some cultures a woman who has just had a baby is supported by family who take care of making meals and housework to allow the women to rest in bed for many days after the birth but this practice has been sadly lost in our modern culture.

You can come for a Postnatal massage as soon as you feel ready – If you have had a natural, complication free labour, you can enjoy a massage the very next day if needed! If you have had complications with the birth or a cesarean, I would advise that you wait at least 3 weeks for healing to take place.

Post Natal Massage can provide relief from complaints such as lower back ache, hip pain, pelvic girdle pain, sciatica, headaches, and neck and shoulder tension.

You can have the massage lying on your side if your breasts or abdomen are sore

You could choose a seated massage to provide relief loosening any tension that may be developing in the shoulders with the vast amounts of feeding, lifting, carrying that you are suddenly doing,

Some women like some gentle work on their abdomen, to help their  tummy recover

You might be ready for a deep tissue massage to sort out those areas of tension remaining from being pregnant.

Where there may have been a Caesarean then we can also undertake some scar massage if you wish after 6 weeks to help with the healing, and I can help teach some gentle techniques for use at home.

Massage is an excellent stress buster and mood elevator and may therefore be found to be helpful if you are experiencing the ‘baby blues’ or post natal depression.

I can also use aromatherapy blends tailored to your needs at the time of your treatment.
